The Cars

1999 Mazda Miata

'99 Miata
The most recent addition to our little family is this black, 1999 Mazda Miata.

Unlike the two cars that follow this one, it has no name.  It's better that way.  I had this perverse thought to name it Black Mamba.  I changed my mind.  Naming this car Black Mamba would just be frikkin lame.

In spite of it's nameless existence, this car is a kick to drive and is a great road car.  It's fast, quick, handles and rides well.  A lot of stories will come out of this car.

There will be more to come in the form of a story, so stay tuned .....

2013 Mazda 3 (5-door) "Tardis"

Tardis
Our main car, and a worthy road car itself, is our 2013 Mazda 3.  This car replaced The Skittle as our daily driver after it was totaled.

It's roomy, handles well, and has a lot of pep.  It's equally comfortable around town, on the freeway, or on a spirited canyon drive.

Sue calls this car "Tardis".  Like the Doctor's legendary conveyance, this car is a lot roomier on the inside than it appears  from the outside.  She was able stuff a 50-gallon water heater, in the box, in the back.  And close the rear hatch!!!

In Memorial:  2012 Mazda 2 "The Skittle"

The Skittle in better days.
We called this car "The Skittle" because of  it's green color reminded us of the candy.  It supposed to have been the official Alternate Route B car.

The Mazda 2 is a comfortable, fun car  to drive and is very roomy for its small size.  It has plenty of power, but not enough to reduce it's excellent fuel economy.  It's a good looking car and we got compliments on the color all the time.

Totaled
Plans for The Skittle and it's place in this blog ended when Sue had an accident.  She clipped the right, rear corner of a Lexus SUV at around 60 mph, glanced off, and rammed a concrete retaining wall.  Sue walked away.  She was standing up against the barrier, talking to the insurance company on her cell phone when the cops, and ambulance showed up.

That's pretty amazing for such a "small" car.  Most people consider cars in this class to be unsafe.  Not so with the Mazda 2.
